The fourth-year Accountancy students having their On-the-Job Training (OJT) in collaboration with the University of Baguio chapter of the Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (UB-JPIA) hosted an insightful webinar through Google Meet, titled “Control Your Cash Flow: From Spare Change to Smart Money Choices.” The event done last September 22, 2024, and was designed to equip participants with essential skills for effective personal finance management, addressing a topic of increasing relevance in today’s economic climate. There were a total of 193 attendees: 192 were business and accountancy students plus one UB Accountancy alumna as speaker.

The webinar began with an introductory message from Ms. Glory Ann Llamas, the president of UBJPIA, who welcomed attendees and highlighted the importance of financial literacy in achieving financial independence.

The featured speaker, Ms. Britney Shane Dalit, a UB Accountancy alumna who is now a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), guided the participants through a series of engaging topics aimed at enhancing their understanding of personal finance. The first topic, “Budgeting and Creating Spending Plans,” laid the groundwork for participants to develop effective financial strategies. Ms. Dalit emphasized the significance of setting realistic budgets and creating plans that align with one’s financial goals. Following this, attendees learned about “Managing and Eliminating Debts.” Ms. Dalit shared practical tips and strategies to help participants navigate the challenges of debt management, encouraging them to adopt a proactive approach in tackling their financial obligations.

The final segment of the webinar focused on “Smart Saving and Strategic Investing,” where participants were introduced to various saving techniques and investment options. Ms. Dalit emphasized the importance of starting early and making informed choices to secure financial stability in the long run.

The event concluded with closing remarks from Ms. Nikole B. Santos, the general secretary of UBJPIA, who expressed gratitude to all participants and highlighted the positive feedback received regarding the content and delivery of the webinar.

This successful event not only fostered a deeper understanding of cash flow management among participants but also reinforced the commitment of UBJPIA and its members to promote financial literacy within the university community. The collaboration between the fourth-year Accountancy students and UBJPIA exemplifies the importance of student-led initiatives in enhancing educational experiences and preparing future professionals for real-world financial challenges.
