The University of Baguio Voices Chorale (UBVC), in collaboration with the University of the Philippines Baguio (UPB) Tinig Amianan, successfully closed the curtain on its love concert “Music as a Recipe for Love” on March 10, 2025, at the University of Baguio Cardinals Gym.
The concert was attended by over 900 audiences where the support came from friends, family, UB Community, and some of Baguio’s local choir such as the SLU Glee Club, BCNHS Young Minstrels, BCU Chamber Choir, PCNHS Koro Pino, SLU – TSA, and Coro Calle. Definitely, love filled the air as the voices of the passionate singers were heard through the night, captivating the audience with love songs that resonated with their hearts.

The concert featured a variety of songs with a love theme, as it was UB Voices’ post-Valentine treat. Some of the most memorable songs include Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin, Forevermore, Kapag Tumibok ang Puso, and Maghihintay Sayo. Mr. Louie Aribon, conductor of UP Baguio Tinig Amianan, concluded the concert with Bituin Walang Ningning, followed by Seasons of Love, conducted by UBVC’s conductor Mr. John Glenn Gaerlan.
The idea of the concert started with a perspective on what love is. It encompasses a lot of things. It may mean words, it can be actions, it is a feeling, as it is a decision. To express each one takes a fraction of a person’s being, and allows people to become one in truth and warmth. Thus, it begs the question, what are the things that make up love? What could be the recipe for love? And the answer was etched in the performers’ hearts: Music.

The two choirs created a captivating show, filled with beautiful harmonies that were enjoyed by the audience. Last year, UBVC also produced a successful concert in collaboration with Pines City National High School’s Koro Pino, entitled Musikapuwa: Pagmamahal sa Musika at Kapwa, as well as an Alumni Concert entitled “Young Once, Young Ones” featuring different generations of UB Voices.
The event was also able to address four (2) Sustainable Development Goals – the concert advanced SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) by encouraging diverse communities and providing a platform for sharing music and talents and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by cultivating a sense of community and cultural understanding and building valuable partnerships supporting cultural and artistic initiatives.

Though Valentine’s Day has passed, the University of Baguio Voices Chorale (UBVC), in collaboration with the University of the Philippines Baguio (UPB) Tinig Amianan, have proven that love can be celebrated every day – that love transcends that single date on the calendar.
