The Supreme Student Council (SSC) of the University of Baguio (UB) launched their first outreach in collaboration with the Department of Health (DOH), wherein they conducted a successful program at the University of Baguio Laboratory Elementary School (UBLES). The program aimed to provide free Measles-Rubella (MR) vaccinations to students from Nursery to Grade 6, ensuring their protection against these contagious diseases.

The vaccination drive was held at the UBLES Quadrangle which started from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM until all the participants received their injection. Health professionals from DOH administered the MR vaccines to students from nursery to grade 6 levels. Ma’am Coara Mamuyao, Ma’am Sonia Insas and sir Jefferson Villa smoothly and efficiently handled the crucial task of vaccinating students across multiple sections, while SSC officers and OSA staff worked tirelessly behind the scenes, helping to keep the young participants calm and comfortable.

For some children, the experience of getting a shot can be daunting. In those instances, the SSC did more than just crowd control. When frightened young students cried or were on the verge of tears, the SSC officers moved in immediately, with kind words, soothing gestures, and in some cases, taking the children’s hands while the children got their vaccine. Their efforts soothe the unnerving vaccination into an enriching experience, making the children feel heard and attended to.

The success of the event would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of the DOH volunteers, SSC officers, OSA staff, and UBLES faculty. Their efforts ensured that every aspect of the event was organized, smooth, and positive for the children involved.
