On October 4, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, the University of Baguio (UB) successfully conducted an educational seminar titled “Cybersecurity Awareness and Cyber Hygiene” at the UB Alumni Audio-Visual Room (AVR). The event aimed to strengthen awareness on cyber threats and promote responsible digital behavior among students in today’s increasingly connected world.

The seminar featured Mr. Frankxen John Pinzon, an Information Systems Researcher II from the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), who served as the Resource Speaker. During his session, Mr. Pinzon discussed the critical importance of cybersecurity and digital hygiene, especially in light of growing cyber risks such as phishing, malware, social engineering, and data breaches. He provided practical advice on how individuals can safeguard their personal and professional information online, including adopting strong passwords, enabling two-factor authentication, updating software regularly, and being mindful of suspicious content encountered on digital platforms.

The event was organized by Mr. Jon Francis Cardenas, Mr. Ranzel Edward Cruz, Mr. Samuel Binwag, Ms. Janeah Castañeda, and Ms. Rio Lei Ember Calpatura, with the support and guidance of their instructor, Ms. Junamil Zamora. Their teamwork and dedication ensured the success of the seminar, from preparation to execution.

A total of 73 participants attended the seminar. The attendees were students from the Department of Information Technology, representing the courses Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT), Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (BSCS), and Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering (BSCpE). The presence of students from these tech-focused programs made the seminar even more relevant, as they engaged with the speaker through questions and active participation.

This initiative also supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically:

  • SDG 4: Quality Education, by enriching students’ digital literacy and cybersecurity knowledge.
  • SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, by promoting awareness of secure digital systems and practices.
  • SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, by fostering safe and responsible use of information and communications technologies.

By organizing this seminar, the University of Baguio continues to showcase its commitment to providing timely, real-world learning opportunities for students and cultivating a community that values digital responsibility and innovation.
