The spirit of sportsmanship, teamwork, and service was clearly evident during the two-day intramurals for senior high school students at the University of Baguio High School. While the event featured the senior high school students’ competitive spirit and dedication, it also served as an opportunity for pre-service teachers at the University of Baguio to actively participate outside of the normal classroom setting. These future teachers provide proof of responsibility and attention in their assigned obligations, helping make sure the success of the event.
During the first day, the pre-service teachers were in charge of organizing the distribution of food to Grade 11 participants. The task required planning, patience, and excellent communication to guarantee that each student received their meals properly and on time. The pre-service teachers initially prepared foods in collaboration with the high school’s food committee. They then guided students to collect their meals in an organized manner, to make sure the distribution process was fair and fast. This experience taught them the value of planning, time management, and student well-being, all of which are important when it comes to the teaching profession.
In addition to food service, some pre-service teachers were assigned to serve as judges for the “5-Minute Exercise” competition. This challenge asked contestants to showcase their physical fitness, coordination, and teamwork in a limited amount of time. As judges, the pre-service teachers observed each group’s performance to check that the criteria were applied fairly and objectively. Their roles also helped them enhance their critical thinking and decision-making skills by requiring them to evaluate performances based on accuracy, teamwork, and presentation. Their involvement additionally proved the value of fairness and professionalism in handling student activities.

Meanwhile, other pre-service teachers were charged with managing various kinds of games, including the obstacle course, which had four hard levels. Each level examines a certain set of skills, such as critical thinking, agility, speed, and teamwork. Before the activity began, the pre-service teachers thoroughly explained the mechanics so that all participants understood the rules. They closely monitored the players during the competition to ensure their safety and order. Furthermore, they motivated the students to complete each level with courage and eagerness
On the second day with the Grade 12 students, the pre-service teachers worked on their jobs with focused effort and passion. They were able to manage tasks more effectively as they got more at ease with their responsibilities. They also became more confident while engaging with students, organizers, and other facilitators. Their collaboration and cooperation contributed to the intramurals’ overall success.
This activity supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education, which seeks to guarantee inclusive and equitable quality education and support lifelong learning opportunities for all. Pre-service teachers assisted in building a positive and supportive learning environment outside of the classroom by actively engaging in senior high school intramurals at the University of Baguio High School. They helped students’ overall development, leadership, and collaboration by organizing events, assisting students, and encouraging teamwork and student involvement. This experience strengthened their status as future educators committed to providing high-quality education and encouraging student progress in a variety of educational settings.
