On May 9, 2025, the University of Baguio – School of Criminal Justice and Public Safety (SCJPS) held a comprehensive workshop titled “Bridging Academia and Industry: Career Pathing Workshop for Criminology and Forensic Science Graduates” at the FGB Hall. The event aimed to equip graduating interns with valuable knowledge on employment opportunities and professional preparation in public safety and law enforcement agencies.

Representatives from the Philippine National Police (PNP) – Regional Recruitment and Selection Unit, namely PSMS Barby Fe M. Layaban, PSSG Michael P. Apioten, and PCpl Cristy S. Wadwadan – led discussions on the PNP’s recruitment process, qualification standards, entry-level examinations, and the corresponding salary and benefits packages. Meanwhile, representatives from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), including SJO3 Maribel A. Luis, JO1 Mazee P. Kelly, and JO1 Debbie R. Banasen, highlighted career tracks within corrections and rehabilitation. The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) was also present, represented by SFO2 Blessie C. Marconi and FO1 Tidler G. Urban, who discussed opportunities within fire prevention and emergency response services.

The workshop fostered meaningful interaction, with SCJPS interns actively engaging in question-and-answer sessions and open discussions. Speakers provided practical advice on how to navigate the recruitment process, the importance of early preparation, and the mindset required to succeed in these demanding professions. Additionally, they emphasized the availability of further training, continuing education, and advancement opportunities within their respective agencies. Overall, the workshop served as a vital platform to align academic preparation with real-world career pathways.
