Working as an intern at Medical Center Parañaque Inc. provided a valuable opportunity to bridge academic knowledge with real-world application. As a Computer Engineering student, I was able to enhance my technical and professional skills within an IT healthcare setting. Throughout my internship, I was immersed in various tasks involving networking, system administration, IT troubleshooting, and technical support for hospital operations.
During my tenure, I was actively involved in IT-related tasks, including inventory management, networking, system administration, technical support, and software deployment. I documented and organized computer assets across hospital departments, installed LAN cables, set up network switches, and configured domain settings for hospital computers.

Additionally, I managed Active Directory, created user accounts, and implemented group policies to enhance security and efficiency. I also assisted hospital staff with IT concerns, troubleshooting network connectivity issues, printer setup, and remote assistance using TightVNC. Furthermore, I played a crucial role in providing technical assistance for hospital events, including setting up sound systems for seminars and medical programs. My responsibilities extended to installing hospital applications such as Bizbox and Netsupport, as well as attending training on SOPHOS Firewall to understand network security in a healthcare environment. Throughout my internship, I applied and enhanced various technical skills such as networking, system administration, hardware troubleshooting, LAN cable termination, and remote IT support.

In addition, I developed essential soft skills, including communication, teamwork, problem-solving, adaptability, organization, and time management. These skills were crucial in efficiently managing the challenges I encountered, such as network connectivity issues, printer and computer troubleshooting, IT helpdesk management, and adapting to the hospital’s IT infrastructure. I resolved network connectivity problems by identifying faulty LAN cables and re-terminating connections, assisted in installing a 48-port switch to improve network performance, and addressed IT tickets efficiently by categorizing and prioritizing requests. I also learned to manage Active Directory, implement security policies for user access control, and gained experience handling medical IT systems like Bizbox.
My internship at Medical Center Parañaque Inc. was a transformative experience that provided exposure to an IT environment integral to hospital operations. Working in a healthcare setting required a combination of technical expertise and adaptability, as IT support directly impacted patient care and hospital efficiency. This experience reinforced the importance of networking, security, and system administration skills in a real-world setting.

Additionally, collaborating with IT professionals and hospital staff allowed me to enhance my communication and teamwork abilities. The internship was an invaluable opportunity that equipped me with practical skills essential for a career in Computer Engineering. The challenges I faced contributed to my professional growth, and the knowledge gained from this experience will undoubtedly support my future endeavors in IT and networking. Through this internship, I have gained confidence in my technical abilities and a deeper understanding of how IT infrastructure supports critical hospital functions. I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the hospital’s IT department and look forward to applying these experiences in my future career.
