CE Day Highlights Students’ Beauty and Brains

Written by Mark Lauren Baliton

After concluding the hard hatting ceremony in the morning of September 14, 2024, the CE (Civil Engineering) Day followed in the afternoon.
The CE day’s main highlight was the hunt for the Mr. & Ms. Civil Engineering – in which the winners crowned would represent the Civil Engineering banner for the then department-wide hunt for the Mr. & Ms. School of Engineering and Architecture (SEA).

Four (4) pairs of candidates were selected and screened among all student applicants. Each candidate had to have an advocacy which they would express their support for.

Their advocacies come from the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDG’s), which they needed to incorporate with their course, and find a way to express and be the voice of this cause.

The event started with an opening number from the candidates, quickly followed by an introduction, stating their identities, and as mentioned – their advocacy. The candidates’ social awareness was measured by this, as what they introduced themselves with, had to be of significant importance and relevance to current issues.

What followed were a series of outfits and costumes which the candidates had to model. The first segment was the sportswear attire, where every pair had their own different sport and unique approach to show their attires, some standouts were the paragliding costumes, which featured paraglide replicas, and airsoft attires, with full tactical gear and replica airsoft guns.
After this, the minor awards were awarded, like the Mr & Ms. Photogenic, Best in production, and the best in sportswear.

The next part was the organizational shirt segment, in which the candidates modeled and flaunted their respective student organizations’ uniforms. Some candidates incorporated PPEs as props into their outfits.
In between these attires, talented students also from the CE department performed songs as intermission numbers, allowing the candidates to have time to change.

Last, was the casual attire, where the candidates each had their unique approach to style themselves. Some highlights were attires that had a touch of Cordilleran weaving to their garments.

The most important part – the question and answer portion, which measured the quick thinking and comprehension of the candidates was what followed. All candidates were lined up on stage and each one had a unique question, all of which revolved around their enrolled course, civil engineering.

Once scores from each relevant segment were calculated, winners were finally announced. Mr. John Albert Cabradilla and Ms. Lav Karylle Camdas were crowned as Mr. and Ms. CE 2024.

The CE day was a success in showcasing the creative side of our future civil engineers. This event showcased the talents, and especially the beauty of the students. This event marked the importance of collaboration, teamwork and innovation of everyone involved in its success.
