The #UniversityOfBaguio’s UB STELA – 4th Year BA Political Science students in line with their Seminars and Conferences Class, Seminar group organized Part 2 of EDGE UP: Enhanced Discourse on Governance through Effective Understanding of Political Communication and Legal Research. The event featured two insightful sessions that delved into the realms of legal research and political communication in the digital age, and it took place last October 02, 2024 at the University of Baguio, Centennial Hall. The event was attended by the BAPS students from first year to fourth year.

On October 02, 2024 at exactly 1:00 pm – Atty. Cherry Dane Farinas-Agustin shared her knowledge during the First segment Decoding Crime: The Power of Legal Research in Criminal Cases. Atty. Cherry, as one of the Legal Professor experts in the University of Baguio, offered detailed advice on digging up information and how it can make a big difference, especially in criminal trials. Atty. Farinas-Agustin wrapped up by emphasizing that careful research isn’t just for catching bad guys, it’s important for everyone in any situation. Her advice? Don’t stop digging until you find all the important pieces of the puzzle, like the old saying goes, “Keep following the clues until they lead you to the truth!”

Attorney and Councilor of Baguio City Benny O. Bomogao presented the second session, ‘Beyond the Broadcast: The Evolution of Political Communication in the Digital Era.’ As a seasoned broadcaster, Bomogao has firsthand experience in using media to inform and engage the public about local issues. In his presentation, ‘Beyond the Broadcast,’ Atty. Bomogao delved into how new technologies have transformed the complex process of political communication. He discussed the impact of social media, online platforms, and digital advertising on shaping public opinion and influencing elections. Bomogao emphasized the importance of using these tools ethically and responsibly in political campaigns, recognizing that they can be powerful instruments for both informing and manipulating public discourse.

This Initiative of the 4th Year Political Science Seminar Group in the SEMCON class is in line with the University of Baguio’s aim to contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Goals as included in the Sustainable Development Goal Council. The EDGE UP: Empowerment, Development, Growth, and Excellence for Professional Success seminar served as an effective and powerful means that enlightened the participants to become successful in Legal and Political Communication.
