The UB Laboratory Elementary School (UBLES) is a nurturing ground for young minds, where students embark on a journey of discovery, growth, and development. As part of its commitment to fostering leadership skills and character development among its students, the UBLES-Center for Counseling and Student Development (CCSD) Office conducted its annual Leadership Training Seminar on September 8, 2025. The seminar, themed “UBIAN LEADERS: Leading with Respect, Action, and Purpose,” brought together classroom officers, club officers, and Supreme Pupil Government (SPG) officers to equip them with the necessary skills and attributes to become effective leaders.

The Leadership Training Seminar aimed to achieve three primary objectives:

Promote Inclusive Leadership: Encourage young UBian pupils to value diversity and build harmonious relationships with others. This objective is crucial in today’s diverse and interconnected world, where leaders must be able to work effectively with people from different backgrounds and perspectives.

Instill Leadership Identity: Ground students in kindness, discipline, responsibility, and actions. This objective focuses on developing the character and moral compass of young leaders, enabling them to make informed decisions and take actions that benefit their peers and community.

Equip Young Leaders with UB-CARES Attributes: Develop characteristics that are essential for effective leadership, including:

Critical and Creative Thinkers: Encourage students to think critically and creatively, analyzing problems and developing innovative solutions.

Active and Lifelong Learners: Foster a love of learning and a commitment to ongoing personal and professional development.

Reflective Leaders: Develop self-awareness and reflection skills, enabling students to evaluate their own performance and make informed decisions.

Effective Communicators: Teach students to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, to convey their ideas and vision.

Service-Driven Citizens: Instill a sense of social responsibility and community service, encouraging students to use their leadership skills for the greater good.

To achieve the seminar’s objectives, the UBLES-CCSD Office invited two experienced resource speakers: Ms. Joi Mari Anegelique Mina and Ms. Mary Jane Pilawen. Both speakers brought a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the seminar, sharing their insights and experiences with the participants. Their presentations were engaging, informative, and thought-provoking, providing valuable takeaways for the young leaders.

The seminar was held at the UBLES Quadrangle from 8:00 AM to 12:00 NN, providing a conducive and inspiring environment for the participants. The event was carefully planned and executed, with a mix of presentations, discussions, and activities designed to engage the students and promote learning. Throughout the seminar, participants were encouraged to ask questions, share their thoughts and ideas, and interact with their peers.

The Leadership Training Seminar had a significant impact on the participants, providing them with a deeper understanding of leadership principles and practices. The seminar’s focus on inclusive leadership, leadership identity, and UB-CARES attributes equipped the young leaders with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to excel in their roles. The event also fostered a sense of community and camaraderie among the participants, who were able to connect with their peers and build meaningful relationships.

The UBLES Leadership Training Seminar was a resounding success, providing a valuable learning experience for the young leaders. The event’s focus on promoting inclusive leadership, instilling leadership identity, and equipping students with UB-CARES attributes aligns with the school’s commitment to developing the whole child. As the students return to their classrooms and leadership roles, they will be better equipped to make a positive impact in their school and community. The UBLES-CCSD Office is commended for its efforts in organizing this seminar, and we look forward to seeing the positive outcomes that will result from this initiative.

Leadership development is essential in elementary school, as it helps students develop critical skills and attributes that will benefit them throughout their lives. By introducing leadership concepts and practices at a young age, schools can foster a sense of responsibility, empathy, and social awareness among their students. The UBLES Leadership Training Seminar is an excellent example of how schools can promote leadership development and character education among their students.

Resource speakers play a crucial role in leadership development, as they bring expertise and experience to the table. Ms. Joi Mari Anegelique Mina and Ms. Mary Jane Pilawen were excellent resource speakers, providing valuable insights and practical advice to the participants. Their presentations were engaging and informative, and they were able to connect with the students in a meaningful way.

Inclusive leadership is essential in today’s diverse and interconnected world. By valuing diversity and building harmonious relationships with others, leaders can create a positive future.
