The 4th-year Bachelor of Arts in Communication students from the University of Baguio proudly showcased their creativity and storytelling skills during Sineranyag 2025, a film festival held on October 8, 2025, at the UB Centennial Hall.

The event, which ran from 12:00 noon to 7:00 PM, gathered BA Communication students from first year to fourth year, along with Dean Antonio D. Mangaliag, Program Chair Ms. Rizza Castillo, faculty members, special guests, and representatives from local media outlets such as RNG and PTV.

Sineranyag 2025 served as the final output for the subject Introduction to Film last semester, under the guidance of Dr. Cesar Liwanag. The activity aimed to highlight how students use film as a tool for expression, creativity, and communication.

Three student-produced short films were screened during the festival, each showcasing a different genre and storytelling approach:

  • “Ika-Limang Litrato sa El Corazon”, a love and romance story directed by Steve Emmanuel Coyugan;
  • “San Damiano”, a suspenseful horror film directed by Jherhuzhalem Viado; and
  • “30”, a crime and thriller piece directed by Rayjan James Ebba.

After each screening, a Q&A session was held, allowing the audience to engage with the directors and production teams. These interactive discussions gave the filmmakers a chance to share their creative process, inspirations, and the challenges they faced during production.

The event was organized by The Mediatrix Society, the official student organization of the BA Communication program under the School of Teacher Education and Liberal Arts (STELA). Throughout the day, the audience witnessed the students’ creativity and hard work as each film displayed their skills in writing, directing, and production. The event also gave students the chance to experience real-world film production, from planning to execution.

The awards and recognitions for Sineranyag 2025 will be officially announced during the Star Awards in November, where outstanding films and performances will be honored. The success of Sineranyag 2025 reflected the University of Baguio’s commitment to developing both the academic and creative potential of its students. It stood as a proud moment for the BA Communication program, celebrating teamwork, artistry, and the passion of its future communication professionals.
