Baguio City, Philippines – On March 08, 2025, another remarkable event unfolded at the University of Baguio Cardinals Gym as students, faculty, and alumni came together to celebrate International Women’s Month. The event titled, “Trailblazers Celebrating Women’s Leadership: University of Baguio Champions Gender Equality Among Generations”, was organized in partnership with the International Youth Fellowship, emphasizing gender equality and solidarity across generations.
As students, faculty members, and alumni wore purple clothes and empowering banners hanging everywhere, the gymnasium radiated an enchanting symphony of purple that echoed the spirit of empowerment and unity. Witnessing incredible speeches, panel discussions and proclamations from amazing women, we talked about the values of resilience and empowerment. They shared their journey, answered students’ questions, and offered guidance and inspiration. The ample time given to students to engage with the alumni, allowed them to share practical advice and bridge the gap between generations. “Pursue your dreams with confidence, determination, and humility,” they said.
The speakers pointed out that the same leadership has a vision, courage, and the capacity to raise people up. Perhaps, the most important lesson was that leadership is not about looking back, but about leading others to what lies ahead. Dr. Helen Alalag, Dean of School of Nursing, also gave an inspiring message talking about women’s empowerment throughout the generations and said, “Women have been the architects of change for generations, proving that leadership is not about authority but about vision, courage, and the ability to uplift and inspire others. True leadership is not about teaching the past. It is about teaching others along the way.”

With the said speakers, who had also spoken about their own experiences of journey, setbacks, and victories, the attendants were given the reminder that equality is never easy to come by but has its own transforming moments that would help change the world. While the university strives on in being the advocate for equal opportunities, it reiterates the call for empowering women not just at work but even in society at large, inspiring them to rise and lead society as a whole.
The discussions ignited at this event will surely inspire and drive action, affirming the reality that women’s voices must be heard, their abilities acknowledged, and their contributions celebrated on a daily basis. Ultimately, the promise of gender equality should extend beyond events such as this one, becoming a daily habit within institutions, businesses, and communities. Through unity and continued support, we can make a future in which women are shoulder to shoulder with men in all endeavors, building a world that is equitable, just, and full of opportunity for all.

As the event concluded, many students expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to learn from some of the amazing women in this generation. The University of Baguio reiterated its commitment to gender inclusivity, announcing mentorship and career initiatives for women. Guests were encouraged to continue their fight for equality, demonstrating that women’s empowerment is not just a celebration, but a constant effort. This is a reminder that women are not just women, but they indeed have the power to create lasting change and pave the way for future generations of leaders.
