UB Accountancy interns organized a timely webinar on building a successful career

On September 21, 2024, five (5) University of Baguio (UB) BS Accountancy Interns, in collaboration with their student organization, Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (JPIA) UB chapter, hosted a very relevant webinar through Google meet, titled “Beyond the Balance Sheet: Building a Successful Accountancy Career”. The event commenced at 5 PM and attracted a total of 267 attendees – one speaker and 266 participants – majority of which are Accountancy and Business Administration students from UB. Students from other fields like Education and Psychology also attended, showcasing its widespread appeal and relevance. 

The highlight of the webinar was the insightful presentation by the resource speaker Mr. Jomar P. Padduyao, a distinguished Certified Public Accountant (CPA) who is an alumnus of UB and a current faculty member at the UB – School of Business Administration and Accountancy (UB-SBAA).

Mr. Padduyao, drawing from his diverse experiences working across multiple industries, shared valuable advice and personal anecdotes with the participants, emphasizing the importance of continuous learning, adaptability and networking in navigating a successful accountancy career. The webinar has provided a platform for participants to gain firsthand knowledge from an industry expert, fostering their understanding of the diverse opportunities and challenges within the Accountancy field.

Despite facing some technical difficulties during the session, the webinar remained engaging and informative. Participants engaged actively with Mr. Padduyao in the Question & Answer (Q&A) session, seeking guidance on specific career paths and challenges. 

Mr. Padduyao’s narrative about managing his career trajectory also stood out as pivotal moment in the webinar where he emphasized not only the technical skills required in Accountancy but also the importance of adaptability and continuous learning in rapidly evolving professional landscape. His experience resonated with the participants, inspiring them to pursue their Accountancy aspirations with confidence and determination. 

The webinar’s success was evident in the positive feedback received from participants where it served as an essential platform for them to gain insights into the Accountancy field. The webinar also served as a testament to the dedication and hard work of the collaborative effort of the UB Accountancy Interns and UBJPIA in organizing the webinar showcasing their commitment to preparing future accountants for success in their career. This webinar on building a successful accountancy career is closely linked to the UN SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth. It has provided insights into the Accountancy profession, career paths, and necessary skills, which can empower the participants to achieve decent employment opportunities and contribute to economic growth when they graduate.
