StuDENTISTAS stepped into an enchanting evening at this year’s Dentistry Night with the theme: Secret GarDENT last September 28, 2024 at the UB Cardinal’s Gym. It was an evening of elegance, mystery, and enchantment as they gathered where nature meets the brilliance of dentistry. Each corner of the venue was alive with excitement and laughter as everyone showcased their unique and magical outfits, turning the night into a mystical runway of elegance and fairy fashion. After long years of prohibited social gatherings caused by the pandemic, this was finally their long awaited opportunity to celebrate the excellence of the dental community, connect with peers, enjoy the magical ambiance, and celebrate the journey of learning in the world of dentistry in an enchanting evening of unity and shared aspirations brought together by the brightest and most talented StuDentistas.
An enchanted serenade from the UB Chamber Orchestra filled the whole gymnasium and brought to life the magical aura of the event. Glamorous Dinner was prepared with generous bunch of Snacks and Desserts was shared during the night. Photobooths, Videobooths, and Raffle Numbers were provided to each upon registration so students could redeem their stubs throughout the course of the event. Ushers and usherettes were present at the venue to guide students to the booths and food stalls.
The annual tradition of having a Year level intermission number was lined up by World-class batch performances by various year levels in dentistry that had each and every one on their feet. It was led by student Agatha Camila Calcal Alsong, a multi-medalist at the 2024 World Champion of Performing Arts. The cheers of support and echoes of applause were heard through the night celebrating lasting memories under a canopy of twinkling lights that reflects beauty, harmony, and joy, creating smiles that last forever.
Through the course of the event, participants were able to cheer for their choice of the Best Dressed of the night coming from each category. Dr. Jacqueline Herrera and Dr. Artemio Licos, both faculty members and clinical instructors were awarded as Best Dressed in the Faculty Department, while 3 other students were awarded as Best Dressed. One representative for the Males, one for the Females, and One for the LGBTQ community, and another student was awarded with the Tooth Fairy of the Night.
The highlight of the evening was the much awaited search for the new Mr. and Ms. Dentistry 2024. The candidates gathered with anticipated elegance, intellect, and enthusiasm as they glittered the stage. From their stunning poses, and very inspiring advocacies and speeches, every moment was a testament to the dedication of each candidate with their exceptional talent and charm showcasing their qualities defining the future of dentistry. The pageant started with the candidate’s production number and introduction, followed by the Sports Wear category. The candidates illuminated the stage with their stunning display of evening wear that was followed by the Question and Answer Portion that gave highlight to the candidates’ intelligence, grace under pressure, and the heart to represent the dental community.
Six female and 4 male candidates vied for the most coveted title of Mr. and Ms. Dentistry, but only one pair reigned. Mr. Carl James Espeleta was crowned Mr. Dentistry 2024 garnering the awards of Best in Casual Wear as well as the Best in Evening Wear while Ms. Sideny Rayne Atluna reigned as this year’s Ms. Dentistry 2024 winning numerous special awards which are the Ms. Photogenic Award, Queen of Wit Award, Best in Casual Wear, Best in Sports Wear, and Best in Evening Wear. Not only did they take home the titles of Mr. and Ms. Dentistry 2024 but they did win all the hearts of the Judges and Audiences who are so excited as they will represent the School of Dentistry at the search for Mr. and Ms. University of Baguio 2024.
The night ended with undying smiles and laughter, hearts filled with content, and a sense of gratefulness as a majority of the students won great prizes they could use for their future dental procedures all thanks to generous sponsors from all over the Philippines who ensured that this year’s dentistry night would be a night to remember for a lifetime.
Social and community participation through events like this play a pivotal role in fostering a vibrant, inclusive and resilient UB community. The event was not only a chance to dress up and have a fun night with friends, but an opportunity to take a break from academics to recharge and come back with a renewed sense of focus and motivation. It helps to celebrate and create lasting memories that could last a lifetime, making impactful connections and build relationships that help expand social connectedness of students to those around them.
